What former CMMRS attendees have to say
“Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Cornell, Maryland, Max Planck Pre-doctoral Research School in Computer Science (CMMRS). I had long been thinking about whether to pursue a PhD, and this summer school came at the perfect time. I was truly impressed by the unbiased perspectives and different insights shared by the lecturers and panelists. Most importantly, I met amazing peers who are deeply passionate and committed to their work. I’m proud to say that we continue to stay in touch, motivating each other and sharing opportunities even after the event.”
Lan Tran, Vietnam
“CMMRS 2025 was an incredibly rewarding experience. From thought-provoking lectures to candid mentoring sessions on research careers and PhD life, the week offered clarity, inspiration, and lasting connections. Grateful to be part of such a diverse and supportive community of researchers. Many lessons and friendships to carry forward.”
Pasindu Fernando, Sri Lanka
“It is that time of the year again! I attended this program last year in Saarbrücken, Germany, and it was one of those experiences that just alters your brain chemistry forever. It is open to both undergrad and master’s students. And yes, it is fully funded 😊”
Rose Kimu, Rwanda
“I attended this summer school, last year and I highly recommend it not only if you know you want to do a PhD in CS, but also if you don’t know and are considering it. It’s open to undergrads, masters, graduates and it’s entirely free!! (travel, food, accom provided) I surprisingly enjoyed the Panels, Q&As and talks recounting tales from the PhDs and life beyond in academia and industrial research, more than the technical lectures. And I also made friends from universities across the world! It’s a wonderful event! And I really encourage applying”
Edwin Fernando, UK

“I had the privilege of attending CMMRS 2025, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. The program offered deep exposure to cutting-edge computer science research, inspiring lectures from world-class researchers, and valuable one-on-one interactions. The organizing committee and mentors were exceptionally supportive, welcoming, and genuinely invested in students’ growth. I gained not only technical insights, but also clarity and motivation for my research journey. If you’re a strong undergraduate or Master’s student interested in pursuing research or a PhD in CS, I highly recommend applying.”
